Interests

Evolution of plant-herbivore interactions : I have been interested in how the range of food is determined in various organisms. Especially in herbivorous insects, many species feed on restricted range of plant species. Why do they specialize on certain plants? By restricting the food range, what benefit do they get? Answering these evolutionary questions is my goal as a researcher. Currently I mostly use computer simulations as a tool to approach the question.

Environmental education As I was hired to teach environmental issues, I have been working on how to teach various kinds of environmental issues effectively. I want my students get involved in tackling real issues, such as conservation of regional forest with local residents.
